In memory of Vanessa Wilcox-Suarez

If you knew my sister, you had the pleasure of knowing one of the kindest, most loving, selfless souls I’ve ever known. She was always helping others, both people and animals alike. She had a heart for those needing help, a hug, a kind word or a laugh. My sister and I were often bullied as we moved from school to school. She was my hero. She would always stick up for me no matter how big the bully was. She has consistently been a fighter for the underdog and put others before herself. She accepted everyone without judgment. She knew the sting of cruel words and being excluded, so she did her best to be a friend to those that may have seemed unlovable to others. She could also make me laugh harder than anyone I’ve ever met. She didn’t even mean to be funny; she would say things that others would never dare to say, and it was often so unexpected that it would have me rolling. I would talk to her on the phone, and she always had plans to help someone move in, clean up, clear debris after a storm or care for an animal in need. If someone needed help, she would always be there. She would find a way to show up for them.

Well, now she is the one who needs our help. Please help us send her off with dignity and honor if you can.

On the evening of June 11, 2022, my mother had a police officer come to her door and deliver the devastating news that my sister had passed away.  She has had so many struggles in her life. She has fought long and hard through her many hardships, depression and traumatic brain injuries, but for whatever reason, this was the end of that fight. She just turned 42. I remember wishing her the best year yet just weeks ago.

Vanessa has a small family. It was just our single mother who raised us two girls. She leaves behind our mother (Vicki Wilcox), her sister (Elizabeth Corrales/me and family) and her sweet dogs that meant the world to her (Marley, Pepper and Max).

Unfortunately, Vanessa had no life insurance to provide a proper burial or service. She didn’t have many possessions at all. She valued people and animals over material things, and it showed. We ask humbly for any help so that we can honor her life with the upcoming funeral service.

Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time.

Information about the upcoming funeral service will follow.

Thank you so much for your consideration.
