My name is LaToya, and I am the mother of Trent Harper. My uncle, Frank James II, is helping our family organize this GoFundMe so we can lay my son to rest with the dignity and love he deserves.
Our family is heartbroken as we try to process the loss of my son, who was taken from us through senseless gun violence. Trent was only 18 years old and had so much life ahead of him.
Trent was a proud graduate of Horlick High School and a member of the 2024 playoff football team. Anyone who knew Trent knew his incredible spirit, his tough work ethic, and his team-first mentality. He loved hard, showed up for the people around him, and brought an energy that made others feel seen and supported.
Right now, our family is still in shock. Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to experience. We are trying to navigate this unimaginable grief one moment at a time.
Trent’s passing has sent a ripple of heartbreak through our family and throughout the Racine community. He was loved by many, and his loss is deeply felt by friends, teammates, and neighbors who watched him grow into the young man he became.
In the midst of this pain, we also want to say something that matters. Our young people need guidance now more than ever when it comes to conflict resolution and choosing a different path. No disagreement, big or small, is worth a life.
This fundraiser will help our family cover funeral and memorial expenses as we prepare to lay Trent to rest and honor his life. My heart is to take time off to help his siblings process this loss through therapy and community resources. He was my oldest child and an anchor for us.
All resources will be used to cover his final expenses and support us as we grieve.
