In Memory of Torrie Brown & Tony Krueger
Donation protected
Torrie Brown and Tony Krueger were two long time employees of Danzer Veneer America’s in Edinburgh, IN, who were taken from us by cancer early this year. The Danzer Pittsburgh Marathon Team has decided to run in their honor. We wanted to raise money in their memory and donate it to Torrie’s children, Mariah and Jonathan, whom she left behind. We are 5 of their co-workers who wanted a challenge and also wanted to honor their memory and families. Please see the full story below on how we started and our goals.
I am sure most of you have heard the rumblings but, there is a new team here in the Darlington office, the Danzer Marathon Relay Team. It started as a friendly joke between Fernando and Thomas, that Thomas would like to beat him in his yearly Pittsburgh half-marathon (we all know who would win that bet), and snowballed into us putting together a team for the relay part of the Pittsburgh Marathon. After some arm twisting we came up with a full 5 member team, Fernando Zertuche, Thomas Vester, Sierra Williams, Dan Rastatter, and Shannon Monk. The 26.2 mile marathon course is split up into some not so equal legs, see below. Let’s just say there has been plenty of smack talk around the office.
Once we got the full team committed, we decided to do this for two reasons. First, we wanted to show our wellness leader Dan Sullivan that we were committed to some healthy lifestyle changes. He even generously agreed to sponsor our team though the wellness committee, THANK YOU DAN! Secondly, we decided this is a great opportunity to help raise some money for our good friends and co-workers Torrie Brown and Tony Krueger, whom we sadly lost to cancer early this year. We’ve been thinking about them and their families a lot this year and wanted to do something special in their honor. Since our company is pretty spread out, we have decided to start a GoFundMe page for our efforts, so the outside offices could join in and donate on their behalf. If you would rather donate by cash or check, we can accept that too, just contact one of us and we will organize it. All the details are below and all of the proceeds will go to Torrie’s children, Mariah and Jonathan, as graciously suggested by Tony’s family.
We are going to try to put the FUN in fundraising for this. If you choose to donate via the GoFundMe page, when typing your comments please choose a runner to sponsor. You can still remain anonymous if you so choose. Whoever of us 5 gets the most money, will earn some good bragging rights, even if our running time is slow! Don’t forget to share the page on Facebook so your friends can help you out.
Attached is the course map with our team exchanges. The race is on Sunday May 5th at 7:00 am, if anyone would like to come out and cheer us on, and maybe join us for a pint afterwards!
Leg 1 – Fernando – 5.3 miles (Our team captain, he will complete the entire half-marathon)
Leg 2 – Thomas – 3.8 miles
Leg 3 – Sierra – 6.4 miles
Leg 4 – Dan – 6.5 miles
Leg 5 – Shannon – 4.2 miles
