My name is Ashley Rock and on Sunday, July 6, at 5:50 pm I was called by a friend of my boyfriend, Tommy Saporito, saying that he was found unresponsive in his bed. Tommy had 104 days sober and was living in a halfway house. On Saturday, July 5, at 11:11 pm, he text me saying he had a scare and was having chest, neck and arm pain. I asked him if he wanted to go to the hospital and he said he was feeling better and was going to lay down. Sunday morning and afternoon came and went. I text and called him repeatedly and got no response. It wasn't until his mandatory 6 pm meeting at his halfway house that anyone realized Tommy had passed away in his bed. It was no secret Tommy struggled with addiction. This past relapse really scared him, after having a seizure and he was ready to make the necessary changes for long term sobriety. There are so many questions that will be left unanswered. Like why he wasn't checked on for 17 hours by staff at the halfway house, but the things I do know are this. Tommy loved the Cowboys and would take their many losses like a champ. Tommy loved his dad, Tom Saporito Sr, his late mother Deborah, his sister Meagen and his daughter Mia. Tommy fought everyday of his life to be a better man than he was the day before. He was excited to start this new chapter of his life, and was starting a job in treatment this week where he was eager to share his hope and strength to the clients he would have been working with. I am so proud of him for everything he accomplished over the past 4 months and was excited to be a part of the next chapter of his story. Tommy's story was cut short. God took him away too soon. Tommy was sober when he passed. Tommy's father will be setting up a funeral rather quickly and state Medicaid unfortunately does not cover any expenses. I would like to be able to help support this unexpected expense for his family. I understand money is tight so if a donation can not be made, please share. Tommy's dad, Tom Saporito, is aware of this fundraiser and will be receiving all of the funds. Thank you for your time and support! RIP Tommy Saporito.
