In Memory of Tommy Johnston

Donation protected
To those who knew him, my dad, Thomas Michael Johnston, was known simply as Tommy. He was a kind, genuine and solid man who would help anyone who needed it.
He was born on July 23rd, 1967 at South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach and grew up in Dominguez. At 13 years old, his parents got divorced and getting caught up in the wrong crowd, he got involved with drugs.  At the age of twenty, Tommy was pointed towards Narcotics Anonymous and got clean on October 16, 1987. That was when his life truly began. Through the years, he worked hard to stay clean and was a mentor to those in the program who needed support. Through NA, he built up a strong family of friends who stayed with him for years, helping him when he needed it just as he helped them. I have been privileged to be a part of the family my dad built around him and will forever be appreciative of the things I learned while part of such a special family. My dad was also a great dad in the traditional sense. He looked after my sister and I with only our well-being in mind and he loved his grandchildren fiercely, enjoying every moment he got to spend with them. But to me, most importantly, he was my dad.
My dad was the first one I called with any sort of news and the one I turned to for guidance when I needed it. To put it simply, he was my best friend. Sadly, even the kindest and most loved among us have their time when God calls them home. My dad passed away on Wednesday January 23rd at 5:00 p.m. After years of declining health, time caught up with him. January 23rd was the hardest day of my life. Like most who have lost a parent or loved one, my only wish is that I could have just one more day, just one more conversation with him, but that conversation will have to wait until my time comes. For now, I all I can do is keep my dad's memory alive and share just what a great man he was.
A difficult part of this process has been the sudden and great responsibility of planning my dad's funeral. Due to the sheer suddenness of his passing, I was not as prepared as I had hoped I'd be.  I now find myself in need of some help gathering fund to pay for the funeral. I have done as much research as I could in a short amount of time, and I have condensed my need for funds down to $5,000. This will cover the funeral home costs, the transportation costs since he passed in Lake Elsinore, and all other related fees. We plan on holding the funeral on Saturday, February 9th. All payment to the funeral home will be due the day before on February 8th. Any help at all, great or small, towards the financial aspects of the funeral will be greatly appreciated.
