Thank you for taking the time to consider my family and our situation. My mother, Teresa Lynn Phillips, unexpectedly passed away on the morning of Friday, August 8th. She was diagnosed with COPD in October 2022, with only 40% of her lung capacity remaining. Finding positivity during her final days was extremely difficult; more often than not, she faced deep depression and loneliness. She dedicated most of her life to living fully and left behind many cherished memories for those who knew her over the years.
On her better days, she would get up early and push through the day until late at night, often caring for her beloved garden—a sanctuary for butterflies and hummingbirds. My mother and I share a trait in that we rarely share personal matters, even with those we care about, driven by pride and a wish not to impose. She was not without faults; during difficult times, she was stubborn and resolute. Our family has a tragic history with this disease, having buried two relatives who succumbed to an incurable illness. While I expected her to have little time left, my mother always presented herself positively to everyone she met, hiding her severe health issues so she would be remembered as a kind, generous person, mother, and daughter.
Sadly, due to her disabilities and limited income, we were unable to plan financially for her funeral and burial costs. Asking for help, whether from friends or strangers, is a tough decision, but it became necessary. We are thankful that a family member has kindly agreed to cover the initial expenses as we work to reimburse and share these costs among the three of us.
