Our brother, Ted Cover, lost his brief second battle with lung cancer on August 6, 2024. He battled and won back in 2010, minus half a lung. He was on disability since then and did not have any kind of life insurance.
Just after his 62nd birthday in May, he started feeling like he had a bad chest cold. Over the next 2 1/2 months, he spent more than 28 days in the hospital where UH Parma doctors repeatedly treated him for pneumonia and tried to control his AFIB with medication. 4 days after being released for the last stay at UH, he still had very labored breathing so he went by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Fairview. As soon as he was admitted, a PET scan showed the cancer had returned and spread. After 5 days of treating his afib and trying to determine stage and options, there were no options and my brother knew his time was limited.
He was such a selfless man, kind and considerate, that he insisted my twin and I still attend Twinsdays, saying “I’ll be here when you get back, have fun and send pictures!”
Ted was moved to hospice care on 8/4/24, and he gained his wings at 5:02 am on 8/6/24. Surrounded by his 3 sons, siblings and his loving former mother-in-law, he was not alone when he took his last breath.
We are forever grateful for the care he received at Hospice of the Western Reserve and for all the condolences, love and support we have received.
