In Memory of Sue Murphy

Donation protected
This fundraiser is in memory of Cllr Sue Murphy, who sadly passed away on 7 April 2020.

Sue was a great socialist, trade unionist and public servant. She dedicated her life to social justice and making Manchester- and the world- a better and more equal place.

Over the years, Sue took on many roles locally and nationally. She was first elected as a Councillor for Brooklands ward in 1995, serving on the Executive before rising to become Deputy Leader of the Council in 2010.

Sue was awarded the CBE in 2015. Alongside her council work, she was the Chair of the trustees for the We Love Manchester emergency fund, the Chair of Manchester Action on Street Health, as well as Chair of Governors at Manchester College.

As Deputy Leader, she represented Manchester on the Local Government Association, and in recent years headed up the city’s approach to homelessness. She was a passionate campaigner against domestic violence and family poverty.

She will be missed by her friends and family, the city of Manchester, the Labour Party, but most of all by Paul, her husband of 25 years.

Sue's funeral is on Wednesday 22 April. For obvious reasons, people will not be able to attend or send flowers at this time. In lieu of this, please consider making a small donation in her memory.

All funds raised will be split equally between three charities that were close to Sue's heart: Manchester Action on Street Health (MASH), Coffee4Craig and Big Change Manchester.
