The Steven Hughes Memorial Fund

We, The Girls of East Brunswick, are a band of women that have been brought together with one common mission, to ensure that their friend, Jami Hughes, and her girls, Sydney and Jordan, will be cared for after the sudden death of Steven Hughes, their husband and father.

Once an elite athlete, Steve was a leader on and off the field, having been part of a large circle of friends in East Brunswick and having a reputation as being funny, often described as “one of the good guys.” Never one to step down from a challenge, Steve never had an opportunity to fight his aggressively spreading cancer. In just a mere 3 weeks, Steve succumbed to his illness that has left the Hughes girls financially vulnerable.

Literally, the proverbial rug has been pulled out from underneath them; it’s an unfathomable challenge that the Hughes girls are now facing. The flood of social media comments came in by the hundreds, as the news broke on FaceBook, many asking, “What can I do? What does the family need?” This outpouring of concern and call to action on behalf of Jami, Sydney and Jordan is extraordinary and overwhelmingly heartfelt by them.

The Hughes family will now navigate many financial challenges, medical expenses, funeral expenses and college tuition for these two lovely girls. Jami, Sydney and Jordan will need the support of their extended circle of family and friends, immediately. Sydney is a first-year student at the University of Georgia. Jordan, a junior in high school, is but a year away from graduating. Balancing two tuitions along with other expenses is just too much for a newly widowed woman to handle.

In lieu of flowers or other nonprofit organization donations, we hope that you will consider a contribution to the Steven Hughes Memorial Fund to help support and to assist Jami and the girls as they navigate through the financial uncertainty of their future.
