In Memory of Steve Bromschwig
On October 23rd the world lost a lovely human being, a gentle giant both intelligent and kind. After undergoing an incredibly hard couple of years' worth of medical issues, through which he joked almost constantly ("Worst. Rollercoaster. Evar."), it was all finally too much for his over-sized heart.
Two lengthy hospitalizations and unrelenting challenges that often made work impossible were hard on the family's finances. Heather losing her job was another blow. Now that Steve is gone, she and Claire need our support.
Whenever they could be, he and Heather have been there for family and friends and neighbours. Steve would love to know that their kindness came back around to help Heather and Claire: to help them stay in the home where Claire was born (I have looked forward every year to reading the ever-lengthening telling of that night); to give Heather room to breathe, and grieve, and the strength to help Claire through this time; to keep Claire in the dance program she loves with her friends.
Heather supported Steve through so much; now let's show her what that feels like.
Many of Heather and Steve's friends might wonder who I am: Heather is one of my oldest friends (she never likes it when I say that... we're not that old!). We met in school in Halifax and I've been a bad influence ever since. I'll be withdrawing funds on her behalf and transferring them to her to use as she sees fit - though I hope this will translate into time for her and Claire to be together with a little less worry, and a tangible reminder of how many people are here for her. Thanks, everybody.
