In Memory of Simon Mares: Funeral Expenses

Our family is saddened by the sudden decline and passing of Simon Mares Velasquez, a very beloved husband, father, uncle, brother and friend to many.

Simon was a friendly, hard-working and charismatic man whose time on this earth was cut short by colorectal cancer, a disease he bravely fought against for 19 months until he ultimately lost his battle.

He always reassured everyone with his optimism that he was fine, symptoms would subside, and that eventually he’d be free from cancer. But then the following few days came with increasing severity, and the course of his health changed.

On the night of July 27, Simon was admitted to the Emergency Room and was found to have several severe complications. Sepsis, Metastases, nearby organ damage, acute liver failure and renal cysts as secondary effects from his cancer. He eventually passed away on the morning of Monday August 11, 2025. During those two weeks, his 3 eldest children never left his side.

Simon left behind a wife and 5 children, two of the children (ages 6 and 8) and his wife are living in Mexico. They've had a pending immigration case for the past 3 years, and now that Simon, their main sponsor, has passed away, the case has become more complex, which will cost thousands of dollars for reinstatement.

His decline and passing were sudden and unexpected, as he was healthy just a month prior. No one was prepared for such an event, much less the costs and stress that come with the passing of a loved one. We are raising money for the memorial, funeral services, immigration services, medical bills, as well as transporting his ashes to Mexico. Anything that can be donated will be highly appreciated.

Nuestra familia está de luto por el repentino fallecimiento de Simon Mares Velasquez, un esposo, padre, tío, hermano y amigo muy querido por muchos.

Simon fue un hombre amable, trabajador y carismático, su vida terminó pronto debido al cáncer colorrectal, contra el que luchó con valentía durante 19 meses hasta que perdió la batalla.

Siempre tranquilizaba a todos con su optimismo de que estaba bien, que los síntomas disminuirían y eventualmente se liberaría del cáncer. Pero luego, los siguientes días trajeron una creciente severidad, y el curso de su salud cambió.

En la noche del 27 de julio, Simon fue ingresado a la Sala de Emergencias y se descubrió que tenía varias complicaciones graves. Sepsis, metástasis, daño a órganos cercanos, insuficiencia hepática aguda y quistes renales como efectos secundarios de su cáncer. Desafortunadamente falleció en la mañana del lunes 11 de agosto de 2025. En esas dos semanas, sus tres hijos mayores siempre estuvieron a su lado.

Simon dejó atrás una esposa y 5 hijos, dos de los hijos (de 6 y 8 años) y su esposa viven en México. Han tenido un caso de inmigración pendiente durante los últimos 3 años, y ahora que Simon, su principal patrocinador, ha fallecido, el caso se ha vuelto más complejo, lo que costará miles de dólares para su restablecimiento.

Su fallecimiento fue repentino e inesperado, ya que estaba sano apenas un mes antes. Nadie estaba preparado para tal evento, mucho menos por los costos y el estrés que conlleva el fallecimiento de un ser querido. Estamos recaudando dinero para los servicios conmemorativos y funerarios, servicios de inmigración, facturas médicas, y transportar sus cenizas a México. Cualquier dinero que se pueda donar será muy apreciado.
