In Memory of Shawn Scanlan: Support for His Family

My name is Katie Baxter (Deans) and I am Shawn Scanlan's cousin. I've always considered my cousins more like siblings. We were together nearly every day in our early years due to my Mom (Aunt Peggy) being the babysitter for the family. I remember caring for Shawn like my little brother. Carrying him wherever we went, sitting beside him at the dinner table where he joined us most nights. I loved Shawn's smile and endless hugs. As we all get older life distances us, but whenever we saw each other, it was like no time had passed. I enjoyed hearing about what Megan and Shawn were up to, how the two boys were growing up and stories of the family masonry business. I recently enjoyed listening to the many stories about the kids racing and Shawn enjoying how he can work with Austin and Connor on the cars to increase their speed. His face beamed when we chatted about racing. Shawn's boys remind me so much of him as a kid, and I pray they will always hold their Dad's memories close. My kids loved when Shawn would take them for rides on the four wheelers and dared them to go faster, which he always did!! We all know Shawn loved the speed and sound of a loud car. Shawn inherited that trait from his Dad, Connor and Austin are following suit.

Despite the smiles Shawn showed to others, that was not enough to get him through his dark times. I wish there was more I would have done or said. I was devastated to hear the news, as I know all of you are. We are all deeply saddened and want Megan and the kids to know that we are here to support them through this. We hope you will consider donating to support funeral costs for the family and all that comes up in such unfortunate times. Even if it's only a few dollars that you are able to give, it would truly help. Thank you for your contribution, it means the world to me.

Shawn my little cousin will forever be missed and hold a very special place in my heart. I know my Mom welcomed you with open arms and is holding you tight. Until we meet again, we love you Shawn!
