In Memory of Shawn Kaplan

Shawn Kaplan, of Brick, New Jersey, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday May 29, 2025.

Born in Brick NJ, Shawn lived a life full of excitement and was always surrounded by the love of his family and longtime friends. He shared his life with his beloved fiancé, Samantha Finkel and was the proud father of two beautiful sons, Jameson and Rocco Kaplan, who were the light of his life.

Shawn had a deep passion for sports. A lifelong fan of the New York Jets and Mets, he could talk for hours about games, stats, and favorite players. Whether watching, playing, or just talking sports, it was one of his greatest joys.

He was a dedicated employee of Earle Construction, where he not only contributed his hard work and skill but also built strong, lasting friendships that meant the world to him.

Shawn is survived by his mother, Karen Martenson; his sons, Jameson and Rocco Kaplan, his Fiancé Samantha Finkel; his siblings, Michael Kaplan and his wife Krystal, Kathleen Lang and her husband Bob and Christopher Mays and his wife Tonya; his aunts, Colleen Mays, Anita Mays and her partner Allan, and Kelly Shepard and her husband Walter; his uncles, David Mays and his wife Jackie, Patrick Mays, Raymond Mays and his wife Georgina along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews who all loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly requested to a GoFundMe account that has been set up in support of his two sons.

Services will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5, with from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Shawn’s spirit, laughter, and “squinty” smiles will never be forgotten.
