On the night of November 15th, lives changed forever.

At approximately 10:00pm, Ryan Koontz and his partner Mandi Ward were driving home on HWY 17 after a pool outing — something so ordinary — when everything was taken from them in a moment.

An intoxicated driver traveling on the wrong side of the road struck their vehicle head-on, causing it to flip multiple times. Mandi, who was in the front passenger seat, was able to free herself and crawl out through the shattered windshield to get help. Ryan was trapped inside.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Ryan did not survive his injuries.

Ryan leaves behind three children, along with Mandi, who lived with him and loved him deeply. Mandi suffered injuries, bruising, and significant emotional trauma, and is now facing unimaginable grief while also navigating the immediate responsibilities that come after a sudden loss.

We are creating this GoFundMe to help cover any financial needs while the family awaits information about insurance or policies, and Mandi's recovery and financial needs.

Ryan was a loving father, partner, and friend whose life was taken far too soon. We are heartbroken, and we want to support both his children and Mandi as they face the days ahead.
