In memory of Robin Wilkerson

On August 3rd, 2022 my mother was the passenger in a single vehicle accident. The driver of the car ran off of the road and hit a mailbox that went through the windshield and hit her directly in the head. While she was wearing a seatbelt, the direct hit by the mailbox caused the front of her skull to shatter and caused a severe brain injury. Upon her arrival at the hospital she began to seize and was sent into emergency surgery where they removed the pieces of her skull and discovered multiple brain bleeds along with brain swelling. She was placed on a ventilator and a feeding tube due to her not being able to regulate her own breathing and still being unconscious. Throughout her stay in the hospital her brain bleeds continued to get worse and she developed a brain infection.
After 19 days of witnessing countless doctors and nurses attempt to wake her up and have her follow commands (eg. open your eyes, squeeze my hand, etc.) with no results I had to have one of the hardest conversations I could imagine.
After meeting with the neurosurgery team, palliative care team and all of the doctors and nurses taking care of my mother they advised me that they are unsure if she would ever wake up and if she did they didn’t see her making a full recovery and being able to breathe on her own or take care of herself again.
At 24 years old I made the tough decision to take my mother off of life support knowing that she didn’t want to live off of a machine or be confined to a bed for the rest of her life.
After 21 days in the hospital she passed at 2:21pm on August 24, 2022
She left behind myself (24) and twin granddaughters (5).
With everything being so unexpected I am asking for assistance for memorial and funeral services for my mom. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.
