In memory of Robert and Lygia Maria Ballantyne
Donation protected
Anita Ballantyne, the Housing Counseling Services’ Tenant Services Program Director, recently lost both of her parents within a week of each other. In recognition of Anita’s parents, Robert Jadwin and Lygia Maria Ballantyne, whose lives were committed to public service within the US and abroad, and Anita’s long and committed work for low-income tenants in DC, we are raising funds to recognize their lives.
Anita started working at HCS almost exactly 20 years ago….she is known for her empathy, ability to connect with everyone she meets and her willingness to keep “at it” even when the going gets rough. When hearing stories about her parents over the years, I can only assume that Anita’s great skills, traits and abilities stem from her parents…As you can imagine, Anita and her family are quite overwhelmed….

Any funds collected will be used in several ways :
- $1,000 will be donated to Casey Trees to dedicate a tree in their memories, to shade DCs low income tenants.
- $500 will be donated to onetreeplanted.com to plant a small forest of seedlings in her mother’s native Brazil.
- if any funds remain, we will set up an Uber eats account, and/or provide other resources designed to ease daily activities…with the goal of helping her family to focus on their losses.
Anything you can share towards these goals is appreciated.
