In Loving Memory of Ricky Dean Pollan

August 28, 1966 – June 27, 2025

On June 27, 2025, Ricky Dean Pollan passed away peacefully at his home in Trenton, Texas, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 58 years old. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his life and career. Ricky was a loving husband, devoted father, dedicated public servant, mentor, friend, and above all, one of the most genuinely kind-hearted people you could ever meet.

Born and raised in Trenton, Ricky graduated from Trenton High School in 1984 and went on to attend the Texoma Regional Police Academy. He began his career in law enforcement as a reserve officer in Bonham in 1994 and joined the Allen Police Department in 1998, where he served with distinction, honor, and integrity for over 25 years before retiring in January 2024.

Ricky served in many roles throughout his career, from patrol officer to School Resource Officer and NAPD driving instructor to rangemaster; Ricky was known as a natural teacher and a respected leader. As rangemaster, he was instrumental in moving the department's firearms training from outdoor facilities to a state-of-the-art indoor range at Collin College in McKinney. But what set Ricky apart wasn't just his skill or knowledge; it was his heart. He mentored so many officers over the years, many of whom have said he was the best example of what a peace officer should be: firm, fair, humble, and deeply compassionate.

As a longtime School Resource Officer in Allen, Ricky made a lasting impression on countless students. He had an extraordinary gift for making young people feel seen, safe, and valued. His humor, quick wit, and signature "Ricky-isms" brought laughter and comfort in equal measure. Whether it was “shining like a diamond in a goat’s ass” or simply reminding someone to stay grounded and do right, Ricky had a way of leaving you better than he found you.

But behind the badge and beyond the uniform, Ricky was a true country boy at heart. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and had a passion for firearms and gardening. He often shared deer meat and fresh vegetables from his garden with family, friends, and neighbors, always thinking of others before himself. Ricky was selfless in every way and was known for showing up with his tractor to till a friend’s garden or dropping everything to help someone in need.

Ricky’s greatest love, though, was his family. He married the love of his life, Susan, on May 28, 1988, and together they raised two incredible children, Renae and Lane. Ricky’s pride in his family was immeasurable. He spoke often of his children's accomplishments, particularly Lane following in his footsteps as a police officer and his deep love for Susan never wavered. Even in his final moments, his concern remained for those he was leaving behind.

He ended his retirement letter from the Allen Police Department with a single word: Godspeed. That one word says everything about how Ricky approached life with humility, faith, and grace.

The outpouring of memories and love since Ricky’s passing has been overwhelming and deeply touching. Friends, former students, fellow officers, and neighbors have shared stories that speak to his lasting impact and how he changed lives, lifted spirits, and gave so much of himself to others. One friend said it best: "There are always only an exceptional few that truly make a difference. Ricky Pollan is one of those exceptional few."

A memorial service honoring Ricky will be held on Saturday, July 12, in Allen, Texas. Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will not be a family night. A visitation will be held immediately prior to the memorial. Details will be shared as they are finalized.
