In Loving Memory of Richard Dean Short: Supporting Big East Akita Rescue

On June 10, 2025, we lost someone incredibly dear to us — Richard Short, a beloved father, brother, and friend, whose life touched so many with his laughter, conversation, hard work, and bleeding heart for animals. While nothing can fill the space he leaves behind, we want to honor his memory in a way that reflects the values he lived by.

Instead of sending flowers, we are kindly asking those who wish to express their condolences to consider making a donation to Big East Akita Rescue (B.E.A.R). Richard remained loyal to the Akita breed and devoted most of his life to breeding and showing these dogs. It would mean everything to him for people to take the time out of their day and take that extra step to donate not for him, but for the animal.

Every contribution — no matter the size — is a meaningful tribute to a life that gave so much. Together, we can carry forward Richard’s legacy of compassion, hope, and love by supporting a cause that made a difference in his life — and will continue to make a difference in others'.
