In Loving Memory of Professor Sangok Yoo
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Professor Sangok Yoo. On his way home 11/5/2025, he was lost in a tragic car accident. He was a vibrant, dedicated member of our college family—an educator, a mentor, a husband, and a father—taken far too soon.
Professor Yoo joined our community with a boundless enthusiasm for teaching and a genuine warmth for every student and coworker he encountered. He had a gift for making complex ideas accessible, for encouraging curiosity, and for seeing each student’s potential. He didn’t just teach courses—he built relationships, inspired confidence, and left each person he touched feeling valued and seen.
Outside of the classroom, he embraced life with gratitude. Whether he was collaborating with colleagues, offering a listening ear, or sharing his quiet humour in the department lounge, his presence lifted us all. His kindness, his integrity, his commitment to excellence—these remain as a legacy in our halls and in our hearts.
He leaves behind his loving wife and son, who now face an unimaginable void. The burden of sudden loss, funeral expenses, and the practicalities of moving forward in a changed world is heavy. In honor of Professor Yoo’s generous spirit and profound impact, we are coming together to support his family in this difficult time.
We have created this fund to …
• Offer financial support to his wife and son for immediate needs and living expenses.
• Cover funeral and memorial arrangements, so that we may celebrate his life with the dignity and respect he deserves.
• Honor Professor Yoo’s legacy by helping his family transition forward with as much support and stability as possible.
Why your support matters:
Professor Yoo believed deeply in the power of community. He fostered a culture of encouragement and belonging among students and staff alike. By contributing, you’re not only helping his wife and son during this devastating time, you’re also extending the caring, inclusive community that Professor Yoo always championed.
How you can help:
• Donate any amount you are able—every gift, large or small, helps.
• Share this page with your network, inviting others who were touched by Professor Yoo’s work or life to join in.
• Leave a message or memory in his tribute section—stories of his teaching, kindness, or friendship will comfort his family and keep his spirit alive.
In closing
Though his time with us was far too brief, Professor Yoo’s impact will ripple onward: through the students he inspired, the colleagues he encouraged, and the family he loved. In this moment of grief, let us honor him by embodying the generosity, compassion, and integrity he showed us every day.
Thank you for your love, your support, and for helping his family during a time of unimaginable loss.
With deep gratitude and sorrow,
Faculty and Staff, Human Resource Development Department, UT Tyler
