In Memory of Po Wah Lok Fund Raising Event

Who was Po Wah?
Po Wah was a devoted husband, a cherished brother, a beloved uncle, and a true friend to many. He had a remarkably warm and caring heart that touched everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him, including our non-human friends - animals, too!

In 2023, Po Wah was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma cancer, a diagnosis that led him through numerous tests, check-ups, and an intensive course of chemotherapy. Despite his efforts and the care he received, his health began to deteriorate in the latter part of the year. Doctors informed Po Wah and his wife, Su Muoi, that there were no further treatment options available. He was subsequently transferred to a care ward in Frimley Park Hospital, awaiting a place at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. It was there that he ultimately faced the end of his battle with cancer.

Why are we fundraising?
Before Po Wah passed, he expressed a heartfelt wish to support Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care, the organisation that provided exceptional care for him and support to his wife, Su Muoi Lok. The team, temporarily stationed at Kings Lodge in Camberley during the construction of the new hospice in Farnham, was incredibly supportive and compassionate.

In honour of Po Wah's memory, he requested that any gifts or donations intended for him or his wife be redirected to the hospice that had so tenderly supported them.

Why Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice?
As you may know, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care offers compassionate support and end-of-life care for adults facing cancer or other serious progressive illnesses in West Surrey and parts of North East Hampshire. Each day, they assist over 250 patients and their families across our In-Patient Unit in Camberley, the Beacon Centre in Guildford, and in their own homes.

Their services include medical care, nursing, therapies, counselling, social work, and practical support, all provided at no cost to those they help. However, with only 25% of their funding coming from the NHS and government, they must raise over £25,000 daily. This is only possible thanks to the generous support of the local community and individuals like you.

Some examples of what the donations can help Phyllis Tuckwell with:

  • £15 could pay for an hours care from one of our Health Care Assistants on our In-Patient Unit.
  • £25 could cover the cost of an hours care from one of our Physiotherapists, whose expert support and advice can help patients to live as fully as possible as their illness progresses.
  • £50 could pay for two hours care from one of our Hospice Care at Home nurses, who visit patients who have chosen to spend their last days at home.

Thank you in advance for your generous contribution to this cause, it really means a lot to Po Wah and Su Muoi Lok.
