In memory of Peter Kaufman

Peter Kaufman was not only an outstanding athlete, but a tireless advocate for cycling and healthful living.
I am happy to share the news that Peter's family have very generously offered to install a permanent outdoor bicycle repair stand on the campus of SUNY New Paltz (see example below). The stand will help students, faculty, staff, and the public keep their bikes in good repair for years to come, while helping to promote carbon-free transportation and the health benefits of cycling--both causes very important to Peter and Leigh, and to many of us.
This appeal is for funding to help the campus create a beautiful space around the new repair stand offered in Peter's memory: landscaping and plantings, perhaps a bench or stone seating to use before or after tuning up a bike--or just a nice place to come to for some solace. What we can do at the site will depend on what we can raise, but I assure you that good minds from on campus and off will make the most of whatever we raise. We will donate everything we raise to the SUNY New Paltz Foundation so that they can fund the project, and if there is any overage, that amount will be donated to a scholarship fund at SUNY New Paltz that Peter identified in his last wishes.
Please help us thank the Kaufman family and pay tribute to Peter by creating a beautiful and fitting space around the new bicycle repair stand.
As Peter loved to say, "Keep the legs moving!" Let's get this campaign moving in time for the peak cycling season.
