In Memory of our sweet Ashton

On November 30th at 1240am we lost our boy Ashton. It was always my worst nightmare but I never thought the day would come that I would have to say goodbye.

All of those who have ever met Ashton know that he is known for his smile. He had the best smile in the world. My heart is shattered knowing I will never see that smile again.

Friday morning , November 29th I was in Niagara Falls with Lachlan to spend some mom/son time together. At 8am I received a text from his nurse that she was concerned. We had a phone call and I decided to pack up and head home.

I cried on the way home telling Lachlan how sorry I was. I felt awful. He said “don’t worry mom, we need to go home.”

I arrived home at 11am and the instant I saw Ashton I lost it. I called 911. The firemen and paramedics arrived. I had to give the phone to his nurse as I couldn’t talk. I went outside and let out a scream that I didn’t know was possible. It was so loud one of my neighbours came running and just held me.

Upon arriving at the hospital Ashton wasn’t even stable enough for a CT scan. He was in the resuscitation room for 4.5 hours. At one point I had played his song for him. Sunshine on my shoulders by John Denver. I left as asked as his oxygen was dropping and they had to bag him. They then came and told us they were doing CPR.

They came back and told us he had a pulse. He went to CT scan and we were then notified he had a volvulus. A complete twist of his bowel and needed emergency surgery.

We had so many family and friends. We all told him how much we loved him. And he went to the operating room.

About a half hour later the surgeon came out and told us that it wasn’t good. Over half of his large intestine had died. His small intestine was also not good. They also told us that they were doing chemical CPR the entire time.

We knew our boy had fought but it was just too much to go on.

The surgeon sewed him up and took him to ICU. We all then went to be with him. He was on full life support. The room of people was beyond incredible.

When we were ready they shut off his blood pressure medication and removed him from the ventilator. He passed quickly and painlessly surrounded by so much love.

Our lives will never be the same.

Anything you can give to help with the cost of funeral would be incredible.

Love you all
