Oshun (Janet McCullough John) was a beloved writer, researcher, and scholar in the Tolkien fan community. An extraordinary storyteller and essayist, Janet also warmly welcomed newcomers to our community, no matter their experience as writers or familiarity with Tolkien. So many of us remember her as a beloved friend, someone who always a moment to comment on a story or post. She was bold and outspoken and led the charge in the Tolkien fandom for social justice. Janet leaves behind a daughter, a son, and grandchildren, and we hope we can do whatever we can, no matter how small, to ease some of their burden at this sorrowful time.
