10 years. A decade. A lifetime. And some days it feels like yesterday…..On July 11th 2007 my precious little sister Orly passed away. Her long battle with a horrifying eating disorder was ultimately too much for her young soul to bear. After a courageous battle she took her own life at the tender age of 18. In a split second everything was lost-my beautiful, brilliant, kind, funny, big-hearted sister was called to be an angel. As we embark on the 10th anniversary of her passing, I felt pulled to honor her in a public space. Unfortunately the stigma around eating disorders and suicide is palpable. To this day I don’t openly talk about how she died because of my own fear, while simultaneously wanting to protect her from unfounded judgment. I have decided to start a campaign in her honor and as a means to begin speaking my truth around her precious life, her illness and ultimately her death. My goal is to bring more awareness, acceptance, education and most importantly compassion and love to the table. My goal is to raise $10,000 by July 11th 2017. The funds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and The Eating Disorder Foundation. For more information about these incredible organizations please see the links below. Thank you in advance for donating and sharing, for loving, remembering and honoring Orly today and always. As I move through this painful time of year, my hope for myself, family, friends and for all our fellow human beings who are on this journey called life – may we all keep our hearts open, support and love one another, laugh, play, live, cry, talk, dream, feel, be….to the best of our ability in honor of Orly and all those who have left us too soon.
