In Loving Memory of Officer Otoniel “Otto” Cruz

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Humane Society Police Officer Otoniel “Otto” Cruz, who died on Saturday, April 12.

Officer Cruz joined the York County SPCA in November 2019 as our Field Services Agent. He was sworn in as a Humane Society Police Officer in December 2020 and served as the dedicated HSPO for all of York County. With unwavering compassion and strength, Otto responded to animal cruelty cases, supported law enforcement investigations, and ensured that animals in need found safety and care through our shelter.

Otto was more than a colleague, he was a protector, an advocate, a friend, and a father. He leaves behind a loving wife, two children, 3 dogs, and many other family members and friends, and our hearts are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

Funeral arrangements are currently underway, and we are fundraising to help his family with the unexpected costs. We invite you to support Officer Cruz’s family through a GoFundMe fundraiser established in his honor.

We are forever grateful for Officer Cruz’s service, his compassion, and his legacy of love for people and animals. He gave a voice to those who could not speak, and his impact will not be forgotten.
