A message from Jennifer Pollard, Nate's mom:
Nate’s favorite song was Born to Die by Lana Del Ray. That was what he decided to have tattooed on his arm on his 17th birthday and that is how he lived the last year of his life.
Nate died of an accidental drug overdose. Whatever he took on Thursday overwhelmed his liver and lungs while he slept. He came home that night, went to sleep and never regained consciousness.
His care was outstanding and we tried everything to give his body an opportunity to begin to work on its own, but his organs continued to fail and he couldn’t recover. We hope that Nate felt no pain throughout his fight for his life and that he was unaware of what was happening to him.
At this hospital, when a baby is born they play a lullaby chime over the loud speaker. When Nate coded last night, a lullaby played. One mother had just experienced the pain of childbirth just as I was experiencing the pain of child loss. A new life was beginning as Nate’s life was drawing to a close.
We are all interconnected in this web of life. We felt every prayer you sent us. We felt the amazing outpouring of love for Nate and for each of us. Your texts and messages and comments and calls were balm in a time of unbelievable loss.
We are blessed beyond knowing with your love, support and encouragement and so was Nate. We appreciate each one of you. We will continue to need your love, support and prayers in the coming weeks. We will lean on your kindness and thoughtfulness to help us adjust to a world without Nate.
We will be making arrangements to celebrate Nate’s life in the coming weeks in a way that is safe in this time of pandemic. We will find a way to include all who wish to join us in that celebration. Nate was a special person and he deserves to be celebrated.
Thank you for all you have done for us and all you will do for us. Our family will come through this time of inconceivable grief with your help and by the grace of God. Thank you for sharing your memories, pictures and good thoughts of Nate with us. Please keep that coming. We need that now.
