Ken was a selfless, giving, hardworking, hard loving husband, father, uncle, brother and friend. He was a
meme loving family man who supported his family even through his multiple illnesses.
During Ken’s younger years, around 1970-1980, Ken worked his way through college as a Huntington
Beach Life Guard. Throughout Ken’s decade of service he saved many lives. I spent many long nights
listening to his experiences. He risked his own life to save those in danger and Ken loved doing it.
I once asked Ken if was ever afraid and he said-“every time he went into the water”, yet he never
hesitated when someone needed him. He once went out and saved the lives of 18 people at one time. It
was an amazing experience which he loved to share. He was honored and awarded for the high number
of lives he saved.
In the 90s, Ken was Chief Podiatrist at the VA Outpatient Clinic in LA. There Ken cared for many of our
veterans. Ken was not happy with the politics of the department and felt that our US Veterans weren’t
being taken proper care of. Because of this he went above and beyond helping his patients in any way
he could. Ken would do so on his own time as well. He never refused to offer his advice or help with
proper podiatric medical care.
Ken was diagnosed with cancer in Jan of 2010. He underwent 7 hours of surgery, a weeklong hospital
stay, and a full course of radiation therapy- Never once missing a day of work. The radiation cause
irreparable damage to his urethra which left Ken unable to empty his bladder. After a few corrective
surgeries that failed, he was left wearing with a supra pubic catheter, which he carried with him until the
day of his death. Ken would use himself as a learning tool every month when he would have a new
catheter inserted so the techs and nurses could learn from his condition. Furthermore, Ken suffered
from 2 deteriorating hips which caused him much pain and difficulty walking but still got up and went to
work every day.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease which he battle until the end. It caused dementia which led
Ken to be forced into retirement in 2017. He was devastated to have to quit doing what he loved.
Ken still went above and beyond helping everyone he could. Beginning with his time in school until the
very end, he was always volunteering his time and expertise. Anyone who knew him knew they could
call at anytime for advice. He was a podiatrist that absolutely loved what he did. He lived to help people,
even strangers.
Now I need to take care of Ken but I need help. We are in need of help with expenses due to his death. I
need to relocate to be closer to family for help through this difficult time as well. Ken also has some
expenses due to his illness I could use the help in setting right. I would love to be able to properly
memorialize a wonderful human being. I often told Ken that he was the man of my dreams and the love
of my life, and he still is.
Please help me honor Ken the way such a hardworking, kindhearted, giving, loving man should be
honored. Thank you.
