In memory of my brother James Allen Bartlett

Hello, my name is Mary Dobyns. My brother, who I grew up with, was James Bartlett a.k.a Rumi Missabu. I’ve went through most of my life without being part of my brothers life from 1967 to 2018. He chose his own journey. He had a beautiful life and rewarding one. In August 2018 I found my brother, we reunited after 52 years of being disconnected. We have been able to spend time with each other during that time and get to know each other again. Once again my heart was full after I found my brother and now there’s a piece of my heart that is broken and can never be replaced. He has passed away as of April 2, 2024. My sister and I are devastated along with my three children. We haven’t even had chance to grieve because there’s so many arrangements to make since he lived so far away. His home was in Oakland California. I’ve learned so much from my brother since we reunited 5 1/2 years ago, things I never knew from my childhood. He was five years older than me, so he was more aware of our childhood than I was. I searched for him for all of those 52 years because he was a big part of my heart and I wanted him to be part of our family. Before I found him, our older sister passed away who was younger than James, and both our parents passed away, so he never got to be a part of their lives again, but during our conversations in the past five years , he knew all about them like he was part of their lives as well. Our visits were very rewarding, especially for my children. We have a lot of expenses coming up with his memorial to take care of our brother for his final resting place. I’m trying to get through all that needs to be done, but I’m asking for help because some of it is beyond my capability.
