It is with deep sorrow that we share the tragic and unexpected loss of Mohammad S. Oryakhil, a bright 17-year-old who passed away over the weekend in a drowning accident.

Shaker arrived in Joplin, Mo this past January from Afghanistan, full of hope and determination for a new life. He was a devoted son, a kind brother, and dedicated student who quickly touched the lives of those around him with his gentle spirit, respectful heart, and quiet strength.

He was deeply loved and will be missed by his family, friends, teachers, and all who had the honor of knowing him. Though his time here was short, his impact will be never forgotten.
