Dear Wake Forest Family,
I hope everyone is doing well. I apologize for reaching out with some very sad news.
For anyone who has attended a Wake Forest soccer game over the past five to ten years, you were likely greeted by one of the brightest lights and happiest people I have ever known—Miss Sandra. It is with a heavy heart that I share that Miss Sandra Holder passed away unexpectedly this week.
I speak on behalf of our entire staff, our current players, and so many former players in saying how deeply she impacted our program. Her warmth, her energy, and the genuine joy she brought to Spry Soccer Stadium made everyone feel welcome—through wins and losses alike. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, appreciated, and at home.
Although she is no longer with us, Miss Sandra will never be forgotten. She made a lasting impact on me, my family, my children, and this program in ways that are hard to put into words.
Many of you know her daughter, Natalie, who oversees the Rhino crew, and her grandson Trey, who has worked our games as well. As a Wake Forest family, we have an opportunity to come together and support them during this incredibly difficult time, just as Miss Sandra supported so many of us over the years.
Our men’s soccer program is in the process of creating a GoFundMe page for Natalie Holder Young and her family in honor of Miss Sandra. As a program, we have set a goal of raising over $25,000 by the end of next week to support them. If you feel moved to contribute, we would be incredibly grateful.
Most importantly, please keep Natalie, Trey, and their entire family in your thoughts and prayers. We want to do all we can to bring even a small measure of comfort and support to them—just as Miss Sandra brought so much joy to all of us.
We will also be placing a plaque in her memory on the side of the ticket booth, where she stood for so many years, greeting each of us with a smile.
She will be greatly missed.
As always, Go Deacs.
