On June 27th, our friend and colleague, Mike Cole, tragically passed away at the age of 53 while in Paris.
Mike was beloved and respected broadly within the event industry, as well as by all of his colleagues at Opus who had the good fortune of working with him, who had the following to say about him:
"Mike was excited and passionate about producing events. He had a bright, warm energy, and I was looking forward to working with him more and learning from him. He was the kind of person you see on your travel list and say 'Yes! Mike’s gonna be there.'"
"Mike was the first producer I worked with at Opus, and the bar he set is impossibly high. Mike was a talented, caring, hardworking, easy-to-get-along-with guy who took care of his people better than any producer I’ve ever met. He was a pro’s pro, and a friend, and will be dearly missed."
"Mike made a lasting impression. His genuine happiness, positivity, and self-confidence have been an inspiration. I will always take with me his infectious, positive attitude."
"Mike encouraged our team to be bold in our approach, our creative thinking, and as team players. Our production department feels a massive hole, and will miss his guidance and leadership."
"Mike Cole was a striking personality, and a person I am so glad I got the chance to spend time with. The most positive, generous and kind person I have ever come across. He made a mark on all of us at Opus and we sorely miss him."
Mike's loss will be felt deeply. He is survived by his wife, Cami, and son, Jack. Opus will be helping to support his family financially through the end of the year, and has also started this GoFundMe campaign as an additional means of helping to support his family through this difficult time. Your donation will go directly to Mike's family to help provide for costs associated with his medical care, memorial service, and other considerations.
