In Memory of Michal's Life Legacy
Donation protected
Michal Solowiej was a son of Basia and Mirek, and a brother to Marek, Jasiu, and Antek from Colorado, and a friend to many, and a helper to those in need. Michal unexpectedly passed away at 30 years old while working on and expanding the Zanzibar Student Aid in Tanzania this past Thursday (5/8/25).
Michal loved children and wherever he ended up traveling, he would find a way to offer up his time and money to help children in need. Michal’s playful spirit always inspired those around him, and he made many meaningful and lasting relationships. The U.S., Poland, Israel, Palestine, and Zanzibar are some of the places Michal left his mark.
At the beginning of his journey, looking for something more meaningful, he found himself in Palestine, helping the sisters who ran an orphanage and school in Jerusalem. After 3 years, he found that help was needed on the island off the coast of Tanzania. Falling in love with the people and the land, he planted his roots there to help the students of Zanzibar, extending his love to the villages of Tanzania, helping build wells, getting people to hospitals, funding necessary medical expenses for them, and much more. After 3 years of dedicating his heart to Zanzibar, his service was cut short from a sudden illness that he succumbed to over the course of two days during the monsoon rains.
Now, his family is organizing the transport of his body to Poland and hosting two funerals, one for the people of Zanzibar, and one for his family in Poland. Any charitable donations for Michal will be greatly appreciated. If we receive more than what is needed, the excess will be donated to the charity that Michal managed prior to his passing: Zanzibar Student Aid, which would allow continuing the work of Michal and give children of Zanzibar better education and opportunities.
