On Saturday, April 15th, our friend, colleague, and mentor Freddie Mendoza had to say goodbye to his wife, Melissa Ann Mendoza. He lost her unexpectedly to a fatal hemorrhagic stroke. Melissa was described as like a diamond by her closest friends - multi-faceted and a free spirit with a tender heart. She was a true beauty who was full of grace and a determined entrepreneur with a multitude of talents. She was sassy and playfully mischievous like a fluttering firefly. Melissa was a Pilates instructor, a dancer, an artist, and a fearless defender of animals. She was a daughter, a wife, a sister, a niece, a cousin, and a friend to all.

This GoFundMe campaign is being started by students and friends who have met Freddie during his time as a trombonist, teacher, and educator. Freddie has been an integral part of many students' jazz education, as he has touched the lives of countless people with his dedication, passion, and talent. He has always been there for his students, offering guidance, support, and encouragement, and now it is our turn to give back to him.

As family, friends, students, and colleagues of Freddie, we can come together to support him during this difficult time. We know that no amount of money can take away the pain of losing such a treasured loved one, but we hope that our support can alleviate some of the financial burden and allow Freddie to focus on healing and moving forward.
