On Friday evening, June 27th, 2025, Matt Gambino passed in the loving arms of his devoted wife, Chrissie. At just 46 years old, Matty bravely surrendered his fight with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare, progressive neuromuscular disease he battled with incredible courage, humor, and grace.
Matty was a proud graduate of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School and the University of Miami. After college, he answered a calling to serve, teaching 5th grade at St. Peter’s in Merchantville, NJ, where he inspired and impacted young lives with his warmth, humor, and genuine love for his students.
Matt’s pride in his family name and Italian heritage ran deep. He carried the Gambino name with honor, humility, and strength; values passed down from his loving parents, who preceded him in death and whose legacy lives on through him. He also cherished his role as a big brother to Michael, a bond rooted in deep love, laughter, and loyalty.
He fiercely loved his family, his friends, his students, and his teams. Whether cheering for the Miami Hurricanes, his Bishop Eustace Crusaders, or Philadelphia’s pro sports, Matty brought an unmatched passion and energy to every room. His sense of humor was second to none, and his infectious smile could light up even the darkest days.
But most of all, Matty loved being a husband and father. His wife, Chrissie, and their son, Matty Jr., were the light of his life, his greatest joy, and proudest legacy.
As Chrissie and Matty Jr. face this heartbreaking loss, we are rallying around them in the spirit of the love and generosity Matt showed to so many.
