Dear family and friends,
Our hearts are completely shattered by the sudden and tragic loss of Matthew Kane, a beloved son, a cherished brother, a loyal friend, a loving partner, and a devoted father of two. Just last week, Matt – a proud member of Local 401 and one of ironworkers on the job – was killed in the horrific parking garage collapse in Philadelphia. He was taken from us far too soon.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Matt, you knew that his children were truly his world. There was nothing in their lives he would miss–from school plays and sports games to bedtime prayers. He showed up for everything that involved his kids, he was no doubt their biggest cheerleader (and loudest). Matt also coached his kids’ soccer, basketball, and football teams and was just tremendous with the children – patient, fun, and always making sure every player was involved in the games. Everyone who knew Matt loved him, he was as genuine as they come and he made you feel like family the moment you met him.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, my niece and nephew are left without their dad, and our family is doing everything we can to support them. There is nothing that will ever replace Matt’s presence in their lives, but we are determined to honor his memory by giving his children the future he would have wanted for them. That’s why we’ve created this GoFundMe: every dollar raised will go directly into a dedicated fund for their future education – college, trade school, or any path they choose that will help them build the lives their father would have been proud of.
We know times are tough for many, and any amount – $5, $20, $100 – will make a real difference. If you cannot donate, please share this page so it can reach more people who might be able to help. Also, please keep his children, his significant other, his family, and friends in your prayers during this heartbreaking chapter in their lives. Thank you.
With deep gratitude,
Bill Sheerin
Proud Uncle to Matt’s beautiful children.
