In memory of Martin 'Jacko' Jaques
Donation protected
It is sad to announce the passing of Martin 'Jacko' Jaques aged 58 following a short battle with cancer.
Jacko enlisted on the 8 April 1986. After completing his training he became a Signaller. With his artistic prowess Jacko then took the decision to become an Illustrator, serving as the Unit Illustrator from August 1988 to January 1999. Jacko left the Corps in April 2008 attaining the rank of Sergeant.
Jacko was a family man to say the least born on Tuesday the 28th June 1960 to a devoted mother, June Jaques, and loving father, Tom Jaques. Martin grew up in Frome and Chippenham and was the 2nd eldest of four boys.
There was nothing Martin wouldn't do for any of his brothers, even if that meant taking on 3 skin heads in a Bar called Golddiggers for picking on his little brother.
Martin would be at a wedding over 32 years ago where he would meet the love of his life. Donna Jaques was a young lady from Belfast Northern Ireland and instantly stole his heart. Making sure to keep him in line, although not always strictly possible, she did her best. Then in 1988 they got married and it wasn't long before the 1st of 2 boys were born. Matthew and then George were proud of and admired a man who lived with and suffered from Brain damage and multiple strokes for the vast majority of their childhood and adult lives.
He was an extremely proud and loving Grandfather (known as Grampy) to an 18 month old little boy called William. Grampy is still loved and his photo is kissed by William every time he walks past it in the house.
Whether you call it coincidence or not but Martin was the star sign Cancer and on the 21st November 2018 was diagnosed with multiple tumours spread throughout his body. Deteriorating at an exponential rate the cancer took our man who fought it bravely for the past three weeks before peacefully taking his last breath at 19.21.
It was his final wish to play one more round of golf and although he is unable too, we thought it an honour to hold a charity 9-hole golf tournament in his honour. All profits from the event will be donated to Forest Holme Hospice who watched over him in his final days.
Forever in our hearts Martin 'Jacko' Jaques.
