Yá'át'ééh! (Hello!) everyone, my name is Jescinta Thompson and I am the middle child to Loretta T. Scott. After many weeks of fighting with COVID-19, our loving mother Loretta has passed on. With the grief and loss that we are all experiencing, I am creating this go fund me page in honor of those who were close friends, family, and co-workers that would like to help with expenses such as funeral costs and other items that may accrue.
Loretta T. Scott was a strong beautiful proud Navajo woman. She worked hard for everything in life and brought happiness to those she met and knew. Her parents were Jim and Mae Begishe.
My mom was born into the Kinłichii'nii clan, born for the Tódich'ii'nii clan, her maternal clan is Naasht'ézhi Tábąąhá, and her paternal clan is Táchii'nii.
She was born in Tuba City Arizona, and grew up Ts’ah Bii Kin(Inscription House, AZ) just south of Navajo Mountain. She went to elementary at Shonto Boarding School from grades 1-8 and went to Tuba CIty High School. She also did part of her high school education in West Covina, California back in 1976 and graduated from Tuba City High School in 1978.
At the start of her career she went to school to become a dental assistant. Soon after she joined the Navy in 1993 in Salt Lake City Utah. In 1997 she lost her first husband, Jesse Thompson, who was our father. Although her heartbreaking loss was unexpected she had to fight and stay strong to raise her 5 children and 4 grandchildren. Our mom went back to church and met her current husband Edward Scott and continued her life in Arizona where she began a new chapter.
She continued her education mainly in the health and medical field. She moved to Phoenix part time and went to school at Phoenix College and trained to become a phlebotomist. She then transferred to Coconino Community College and received her Associates Degree. Our mom was in the process of getting her Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education. She wanted use that degree to help bring health awareness to the Navajo and Hopi People. After all the accomplishments she didn't stop there. She retired from the Navy after 21 years of service.
She raised 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter. She never stopped pushing herself and always encouraged others. Education was important to her, she would say "You are never too old to learn something new". She had her Christian faith, family and friends to keep her on her feet. She always told you about her day and always wanted to hear what your day was like as well. Words of encouragement were her forte and she never let you think you were alone. She always helped if you asked. She was so supportive and never hid her strength.
Everything given will be appreciated. We are deeply saddened for our loss although we know our mom is resting in peace. Much love from the families of the Begishe's, Thompson's, Scott's, Johnson's, and Little's. We would like for everyone to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you! Ahéheeʼ!
