In Memory of Lorenzo Diaz

On April 4th, 2022, our family suffered the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Lorenzo Diaz. This has caused a deep, indescribable pain to all his family, friends and to all  who were blessed to have known him. Lorenzo was a very responsible 19-year-old young man, full of dreams and goals, with a full life ahead of him. He was studying Computer Engineering at Miami Dade College, while working at the Trump National Doral Golf Resort. He enjoyed playing basketball and video games. Lorenzo was a reserved and quiet young man, with a kind and generous heart, who was loved by all.

 

In early March of this year, Lorenzo was experiencing a recurrent cough, sore throat, shortness of breath and general weakness, and was seen by his primary care physician. After blood and urine test results indicated irregular and concerning values, he was admitted to Baptist Hospital on March 15th. He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and given an encouraging prognosis despite his test results at the time. His medical team immediately started Lorenzo on his first cycle of chemotherapy; however, a few days later he began to show respiratory complications and his doctors made the decision after consulting with his parents, to transfer him to the intensive care unit in an effort to stabilize him. Lorenzo's breathing and general condition continued declining and shortly after his transfer to the intensive care unit, his parents were faced with the heart-wrenching decision to consent to place Lorenzo on a ventilator. Supported by an army of family and friends who were praying day and night, from close and far away, Lorenzo fought valiantly this unfair battle throughout the following days. Yet his body could no longer withstand the complications and challenges, and on Monday, April 4th at 9:40 am our courageous warrior lost the fight. Lorenzo was surrounded by the love of his parents at the time of his passing.

 

In the weeks since his untimely passing, many people have reached out to the family, wishing to help the grieving parents and family in any way needed, at this most difficult time.

 

We would like to honor Lorenzo's memory by helping his parents and ease some of the financial burden involved in such an untimely passing. All support will be highly appreciated and cherished.

El pasado 4 de Abril nuestra familia sufrió la sentida pérdida de nuestro querido Lorenzo Diaz. Su prematura y repentina muerte ha causado mucho dolor a toda su familia y amigos, y a todos aquellos que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerlo. Lorenzo era un joven de 19 años muy responsable, con muchos sueños y metas y una vida entera por delante. Estudiaba Ingeniería en Computación en el Miami Dade College mientras a su vez trabajaba en el Trump National Doral Golf Resort . Le gustaba el basketball y los video juegos y a pesar de que era muy reservado era una persona de gran corazón y querido por todos.

 

A principios de marzo de este año Lorenzo presentó síntomas de tos frecuente, dolor de garganta, deficiencia respiratoria y debilidad general. Fue visto por su médico primario. Se le hicieron exámenes de sangre y orina que mostraron algunos valores muy irregulares. Fue admitido en el Hospital Baptist el día 15 de Marzo. Dos días más tarde fue diagnosticado con Leucemia (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), pero con un buen pronóstico. Su equipo médico le inició inmediatamante su primer ciclo de quimioterapia sin embargo empezó a presentar complicaciones respiratorias y su condición en general empezó a deteriorarse. Decidieron transferirlo a terapia intensiva para estabilizarlo. La condición de Lorenzo siguió desmejorando en terapia intensiva y sus padres se vieron en la dura decisión de colocarlo en un respirador. Fue apoyado por toda su familia y amigos que oraban día y noche por su pronta recuperación. Luchó duramente durante varios días pero su salud siguió deteriorándose y su cuerpo no pudo soportarlo y el Lunes 4 de Abril a las 9:40 am nuestro querido Lorenzo perdió la batalla. Lorenzo estaba rodeado del amor de sus padres a la hora de su fallecimiento.

 

Durante las semanas siguientes mucha gente se ha comunicado con la familia de Lorenzo ofreciendo su apoyo de alguna manera para ayudarlos en este momento tan difícil.

 

Quisiéramos honrar la memoria de Lorenzo ayudando a sus padres a aliviar un poco la carga económica que esta situación representa. Cualquier ayuda será altamente agradecida y apreciada.
