In Memory of Láwû (Mango) Makuriye’nte: Family Support

Donation protected
On behalf of Edirose (Catherine) ,

Thank You

To everyone who gave with your heart, your wallet, your voice—thank you.

Your support made it possible to honor the life of Láwû, who was and will always be light, laughter, and fire. This fundraiser was born from urgency and love, in the wake of unbearable loss, and your contributions helped bring dignity and care to an otherwise impossible moment. We carry that with Us.

Organizing this campaign came with unexpected challenges. While I’m grateful the funds were ultimately transferred, I would encourage others to carefully research platforms before choosing where to host future support efforts.

P.S. If anyone ever wants to hear about my experience with GoFundMe—how they tried to make me personally liable for their platform’s failures—please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’ve done the research, and there are far more ethical, grassroots alternatives out there.

With immense gratitude,

All who love Láwû

Hello everyone,

On March 23rd, 2025, over 200 people gathered to honor the life and legacy of Láwû (Mango) Makuriye’nte in a deeply moving memorial in Los Angeles. It was a powerful testament to the profound impact Láwû had on so many across different communities. Since then, other memorials have been held throughout the country, each a vivid reminder of the love, light, and fierce spirit they brought into our lives.

My name is Iris Carmina Escobar, and I was a close friend of Láwû for over seven years. They became like family to me, staying at my apartment in Los Angeles for extended periods and collaborating closely through Boss Witch Productions. Láwû co-directed Mirrored Fatalty, a project we presented and supported over the past year and a half. Their loss is immeasurable, and I remain committed to standing by their mother, Miss Edirose M. Lapid, during this incredibly difficult time.

All funds raised through this campaign have been directed to Edirose to cover the substantial costs of funeral and memorial services in Los Angeles, as well as other essential expenses that have arisen in the wake of this tragedy. As Edirose battles cancer, the funds are also being used to provide her with a financial cushion, allowing her to focus on her health and navigate the profound grief of losing her child and primary caregiver.

Additionally, the support has helped with:

Immediate living expenses as Edirose manages her health and medical treatments.

Relocation assistance to help her move closer to extended family or a more supportive living situation.

Ongoing medical bills as she continues her fight against cancer.
Bereavement counseling and support to aid her in processing this immense loss.

I am not managing these funds personally, nor is Mads Falcone; all donations go directly to Edirose to ensure she receives the full support intended by all of you.

On behalf of Láwû’s family, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed, attended memorials, or reached out with words of comfort and solidarity. Your generosity has been a profound source of strength during this heartbreaking time.

Thank you for keeping Láwû’s memory alive and for standing with Edirose as she faces the days ahead.

With love and appreciation,
Iris Carmina Escobar & Mads Falcone

We are devastated to share, on behalf of their family, that our cosmic sibling, treasured collaborator, artist warrior, and beloved being, Láwû Makuriye’nte (Mango), has passed away in a car accident. Their sudden departure has left us in shock, reeling in waves of disbelief, crying from the deepest wells in our bodies, and howling to the earth and sky. This is an unbearable loss.

Láwû loved ferociously and without bounds. They created invisible mycelia, bonding us together, building systems of care, and holding space for so many. As an alchemist of sound, brutal performer, and curious child made of magic, Láwû wove a presence that will never fade. They are in The Everything now—in the fire, in the water, in the earth, dancing in the air.

Now, it is our turn to show up for them.

We are raising funds to support Láwû’s family in navigating this tragic moment. The financial burden of transportation, cremation, memorial costs, travel, legal paperwork, and other unexpected expenses is significant. We want to help ease this weight so that their family can focus on grieving and honoring Láwû without additional stress.

Láwû was loved by so many, and we know their impact rippled far beyond what we can even see. This is our opportunity to honor their legacy, hold their family in care, and come together as a community.

WE LOVE YOU, MANGO! You are here as long as your many names keep flaming through our mouths. WE LOVE YOU, LÁWÛ! You are here, vibrating through the piercing music you created. WE LOVE EACH OTHER because we LOVE YOU!

If you are able, please contribute and share this with others who knew and loved Láwû. Every bit of support helps.

With love and gratitude,

The Community Who Loves Láwû
