Hello, my name is Willee Mell. My family and I are fundraising for our father Larry E. Mell of Cottage Grove, OR. As many of you know, Larry Mell recently passed away on December 1st, 2021. Larry was struck by a bullet while driving along highway 38 west of Drain in Oregon. Larry was initially taken to Mercy Hospital in Roseburg, OR before being airlifted to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield, OR. Unfortunately, Larry passed way as a result of his injuries in the early morning hours of December 1st.
Not only was Larry a wonderful brother, father, and grandfather, he was also a memorable member of both the Cottage Grove and Yoncalla communities. Larry touched the hearts of many in the area and always did his best to help those in need. Larry also enjoyed his farm and his animals, which he cared for deeply. I spoke with my father the day before the incident, and he was having the best day of his life. He was happy and cheerful, just waiting to come across someone who could use his assistance.
During his life, Larry survived many life-threatening incidents. He was a Navy veteran who was combatting the effects of Agent Orange exposure, along with cancer, heart problems, multiple strokes, several infections and a fall which caused significant brain damage. But Larry never gave up, he never stopped fighting, he never called it quits. Many would see Larry with a smile. He did his best to make everyone’s day brighter. He was loved by many, but nothing could compare to the love he gave back. Larry always put the needs of others above his own. He was selfless and supportive.
And now, we are reaching out to all those that knew him. Any help in making this unexpected experience less stressful for his family would be greatly appreciated. The entire family welcomes any help from family, friends, and the community he loved. Help spread the word, while we give peace to the man we love most.
Thank you.
