My name is Lorna Saunders and I’m writing this with a very heavy heart but I feel truly honoured that Claire has trusted me to set up this page in memory of her incredible daughter Kayla.

I had the absolute privilege of leading the private physiotherapy team supporting Kayla, a truly extraordinary and beautiful girl whose strength, spirit and unmistakable sass touched everyone lucky enough to know her. She faced more challenges than most, yet continually defied expectations, always making her voice heard and her choices known, showing us all what true strength and determination looks like. Her sudden and unexpected passing has left an indescribable loss and she will be missed beyond words.

At the centre of her world was her incredible mum Claire — her fiercest advocate, her voice, and her constant source of love — who fought tirelessly every single day to ensure her daughter had the best life and every opportunity possible. In the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, Claire’s strength continues to shine through, and it is with her blessing that we are setting up this page to remember Kayla and support two places that meant so much to them both.

Kemball School and Dougie Mac’s Childrens Services hold a special place in their hearts. Kemball was never just a school, it was a place where Kayla was truly known, supported and celebrated for exactly who she was. It gave her the space to learn, grow and let her own unique sassy personality shine through. Dougie Mac became a source of comfort, care, and kindness when it was needed most, supporting Claire and the whole family at this unbelievably difficult time.

Giving back in Kayla’s memory feels so important, and a truly meaningful way to recognise everything these two places gave to her and her family.
