This September, I’m proud to be running the Lifetime Chicago Half Marathon in honor of my grandmother, Kathryn Ann Shell, who we lost on June 2nd of this year to squamous cell carcinoma. She was a constant source of love, strength, and warmth in my life, and I’m dedicating every mile of this race to her memory. Kathryn always encouraged me to pursue my passions, especially running, and her support helped me through many challenges. Her belief in me was unwavering, and I carry that with me every time I train and race.
Losing Kathryn to squamous cell carcinoma was devastating for our family. Watching her face this disease with courage and grace made me realize how important it is to support research that can lead to better treatments and outcomes. I want to honor her legacy by helping others who are fighting this cancer, and by raising awareness about the need for continued research. In her honor, I’m raising funds for squamous cell carcinoma research, with all proceeds going directly to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Their work is critical in advancing treatment options and improving outcomes for others facing this disease.
Any amount you can give—no matter how small—will help support research that brings hope to countless families. Your support means so much to me and to everyone who loved Kathryn. Thank you for helping me carry my grandma’s legacy forward and for joining me in the fight against squamous cell carcinoma.
