In Memory of My Father

Donation protected
As a young child my father, Junices, was fascinated with the world around him. He was the last of nine children born at the edge of The Great Depression to Lee and Ada. As the son of farmers born in Bowling Green, KY, his connection to the earth was clear.

My father once told me a story about his adventures while accompanying my grandfather to his job as a railroad worker. His favorite place were the sand mounds. He would courageously make his way to the summit of these tall and wide structures, as if ascending a mountain top. There he would turn his attention to the horizon and dream of the earth in distant places. I wonder now how these imagined soils looked in his minds eye. The sweeping valleys and the meandering water ways. I imagine he must have picked up a handful of that sand, its texture and color as real as anything.

Years later, my father would go on to visit some of the places he could only image as a child. As an Army Veteran and Paratrooper, he would eventually go beyond the summit of his mind, soaring through clouds back to the earth. He would go on to do something that many of us could only dream of. Being in the military provided my father the ability to learn new skills while traveling throughout Europe, including Germany and France. For a young man from very modest beginnings in rural Kentucky, this was an opportunity of a lifetime.

My father was a humble man. Quite as kept. When asked, "How are you", his reply was always a gentle and definitive, "Fine, fine. Thank you." He never complained about pain or discomfort. He would simply slow down, take his time, and keep moving forward.

In our earnest preparation, my family and I are asking for your help in order to honor my father and his spirit. Our goal is to raise $4,050, which help will cover the cost of funeral services. We appreciate and respect whatever is on your heart to give. Know that with your assistance, we will be able provide a respectful and meaningful going-home ceremony in celebration of my father's life, imagination, faith, and abiding will.

As an expression of our gratitude, anyone who donates will receive a digital download of one of my original photographs. All we will need is your preferred email address.

From my family to yours, we send our sincere and deepest thanks for all your support.
