Yoga Study Grant in Memory of Joshua Bell-Altizer
Donation protected

In Memory of Joshua William Bell-Altizer (Nov 19, 1987 - May 1, 2020)
who passed away in his sleep from a heart attack at age 32.
With this fundraiser, we are raising monies to go toward a Yoga Study Grant in Joshua's name to be awarded annually to a student in the teacher training program at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.
Joshua will be remembered as a passionate human who loved intensely and cared deeply. His big smile, sense of humour and giggle could illuminate a room. Joshua also struggled with addiction. It did not define him but he carried the heavy weight of the shame and stigma that comes with it. He often had a hard time recognizing the beauty and strength that everyone else saw in him. Josh worked so hard to overcome this disease and made incredible strides.
In August 2019, he became a certified yoga teacher through the acclaimed Salt Spring Centre of Yoga. In November 2019, he embarked on his first international trip to India where he studied and volunteered at the Sri Ram Ashram and further developed his practice at 7 Chakras Yoga School in Rishikesh.
Upon Joshua’s return to Canada he came full circle when he started teaching yoga to the men at the Comox Valley Recovery Centre where he himself had once received treatment. His intention was to keep studying, traveling, writing and teaching, with the dream to become a healer to others.
Although his dream was cut short, his friends and teachers feel that by creating a Yoga Study Grant in his name, we can make the most of his memory by giving an opportunity to another aspiring teacher to explore their own yoga journey.
Please consider donating to the Joshua William Bell-Altizer Yoga Study Grant.
Forever in our hearts.
Rest in Peace Joshua.
