It is with a broken heart that I write this GoFundMe. My name is Jakyra Brown and on behalf of my 4 siblings, I’m creating this fundraiser. Our mother, Jonique Brown, was brutally murdered in front of me early Sunday morning, August 25, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Our mother was murdered trying to protect me from being attacked by several individuals. Trying to protect me, my mom was shot several times. Our mother died on the scene in my arms. Anyone who knew our mother knew how much my siblings and I meant to her. My mom would give her last to make sure my siblings and I had whatever we needed. My mom was the sweetest, most outgoing person, who would do anything for her loved ones. My siblings and I, with me being 20 years old, my mother’s oldest child, are left to bury my mom and take care of my other 4 siblings after my mom is laid to rest.

We’re hoping to get some help for her burial expenses and to help with our living expenses, as we will need to transition from Baton Rouge to New Orleans into a new living situation.
