In Memory of Jon Tetzlaff: Final Expenses

Donation protected
Today, on what would have been his 67th birthday, I am heartbroken to share with you that Jon Tetzlaff died suddenly on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at his home. Jon was a private man, and in keeping with his wishes there will not be a published obituary or ceremony. As Jon’s friend and the one person he trusted to make decisions with and for him, it is important to me to share this news with those who knew him. I have established a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of Jon’s cremation.

I was fortunate to meet Jon in 2019, and quickly learned what a wonderful human being he was. Jon had a great sense of humor, quick smile, compassionate heart, and generous spirit. He loved the neighborhood where he had lived for 30 years, his friends and neighbors, playing Pokémon, my homemade broccoli-cheese soup, watching the History Channel, any and all types of sweets, and the pets who (previously) graced his life: Jasper, Mike, Gus and Gabe.

The latter part of life was difficult for Jon, a single man who lost the love of his life shortly before disability shortened his career and gradually impaired his mobility and dexterity. An accident in his home last fall led to Jon being hospitalized and it was during this time that Jon was diagnosed with two additional serious health conditions. Jon subsequently spent months in a rehabilitation center before finally returning home in early January 2025.

Jon spent the final months of his life in a wheelchair, while courageously undergoing treatment for cancer and fighting to stay healthy. Beyond being his friend, Jon trusted me to help him make medical and other decisions, cook meals, go to his appointments, and spend countless hours just sitting and enjoying his company. Despite the daily difficulties Jon faced, we always found reasons to joke with each other. I would give anything to hear his laugh just one more time.

It was only after he died that I learned Jon had been unable to financially plan for his final disposition. I have established this fundraiser in his honor, to enable the fulfillment of his final wishes. Any funds that remain after cremation costs will be used defray the expense of clearing out his home.
