In Memory of Jon Bassett
William Jonathon Bassett passed away on December 23, 2020, after a brief but brave battle with a myriad of ailments. Known to his friends and family as Jon, he leaves behind a legacy of friendship, understanding, generosity, and courage for all who knew him.
Anyone who knew Jon knew about his loyal canine companions, Gypsy and Kylie. They were by his side through thick and thin, and he rewarded them with all the love and care any parent would show a child - whether they walk on four legs or two.
From a young age, Jon was fiercely independent and always tried to beat his own path. The youngest child (by 17 minutes) in a set of triplets, Jon was the first of the trio to accomplish many of life’s milestones. He was the first to climb out of his crib. He was the first to walk. He was the first to get a driver’s license and a car of this own. And, unfortunately, he’s the first to leave this earth for what are surely greener pastures.
Jon was known for his disappearing acts, losing touch with family and friends for months at a time, only to reappear and reconnect with loved ones as if no time had passed. This time, Jon’s absence from our lives will be longer than the rest, but that just means the reunion will be sweeter when it happens.
Jon is survived by his sister, Jackie, his brother, Jason, and his beloved Gypsy and Kylie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jacob and Ida Grossman and Paul and Marion Bassett, his mother and father, Roz and Paul, and his niece, Clara.
Jon’s passing will leave a void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. To commemorate his life, his brother and sister would like to dedicate a bench and a tree at a soon to be determined park in Orlando.
A dedication and memorial will be held in early spring 2021
