With heavy hearts, we are asking for your prayers and support for the family of Johnita Elizabeth (Davis) Matkins, who passed away unexpectedly in Houston, Texas, on August 29, 2026, at the age of 63.

Johnita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born on February 5, 1963, in Longview, Texas, to Johnnie and Aunita Davis. Johnita married her beloved husband, Edmund Matkins, in 1982, and eventually made Houston her home. She devoted approximately 35 years of her life to the dental field, where her dedication, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others were a reflection of who she was. She loved cooking, antiquing, decorating her home, and reminiscing about previous family trips to the Smoky Mountains. She especially loved Christmas and all the traditions that came with it, including baking Christmas cookies for the people she loved. But those who knew Johnita best knew that her greatest love was her family. As the family navigates this heartbreaking loss, they are also facing the unexpected financial responsibilities that come with funeral and additional living and medical expenses. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help ease some of that burden and allow the family to focus on grieving, remembering, and celebrating Johnita's life.
