On Saturday, July 27th, John entered St. Peter's University Hospital to have a biopsy and some other tests done because he was not feeling well and had been having stomach pain for some time. He was weak at that time. He was released on Wednesday, July 31st pending the results of the tests. On Thursday, Tracey found out from a mutual friend that he was worse and needed to return to the hospital. John was extremely weak with jaundice and slurred speech at that time. He was re-admitted to St. Peter's on Thursday, August 1st.
Test results determined that John had stage 4 cancer that may have originated in his intestines, and it spread to his liver and lungs. John's health was gradually declining each day. On Sunday, the oncologist decided it would be best to start him on chemotherapy the next day and complete a 3-day round of treatment while he was in the hospital. At that point, the plan would be to send him home and Tracey would have to take him for his treatments for each round. On Tuesday at 10 a.m., Tracey spoke to the oncologist and it was found that the chemo treatment never took place on Monday because John had an abnormality in his blood, so the oncologists were attempting to find the right combination of drugs to administer in the chemo. Tracey was then informed that they would start chemo on Tuesday and John could possibly live 1-1/2 years and, without chemo, he would only live another couple of weeks. Tracey and the family went to visit John again Tuesday at 2 p.m. When they arrived at the hospital, they were met by the oncologist and were told that John was too weak to receive chemo. In fact, chemo would probably make him worse. The worst news was that he would not live a couple of weeks as they were told. He only had hours to a day left. Throughout this entire time, John's health deteriorated rapidly. He lost the ability to walk, then to eat, then to talk, etc. John died peacefully and an no pain with Tracey, A.J., Kayla, Kathryn, and Sylvia by his side throughout the night until his final breath.
The funds that we are asking for would be to assist Tracey with the costs of his ashes and funeral mass. We truly appreciate the outpouring of love and prayers that have been sent to us. If we do not respond to messages or phone calls, please be patient. We do take to heart each and every one of the kind words that are being sent our way.
