In Memory of John Gibler
Donation protected
My nephew, John Gibler, passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2025. His death was by suicide, which left myself, our family, and his friends spiraling in indescribable shock and grief.
His loss has touched so many....
John was a passionate football fan throughout his life. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Penn State Nittany Lions fan.
Throughout John's youth, he played football, beginning with Pee Wee Football. His love for the game continued as he played for Cape Henlopen High School football team, and in his senior year, he was presented with the Sam Russell Award. As a college freshman, John earned a starting spot as a linebacker.
In high school, John also played on the lacrosse team.
John also loved being on the Rehoboth Beach Patrol. For over a decade, he spent summers guarding the beaches of Rehoboth Beach, DE. Unfortunately, a foot injury ended his RBP career, a crushing loss and pain that he endured for the rest of his life.
Even though John was crippled by depression and social anxiety disorder, he was a compassionate and caring person.
John tirelessly was a caretaker for his mother, Donna Gibler (my sister), as she succumbed to cancer in 2021 that was tragically undiagnosed till the very end.
Also, John was the long-term caregiver to Donna's partner, Joy Reese. For over a decade, Joy slowly became consumed by Alzheimer's. Joy also passed away a short time after his mother's death.
Since the death of his mother, John's mental health continually declined because the anchor to his world was gone....
The proceeds of this GoFundMe will help pay for John's funeral expenses....these funds will help fulfill his final request to be buried in his beloved Rehoboth Beach, DE....quoting his final words....bring me "HOME".
Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
